pictures from the ride from New Jersey to Tennessee and back:
Top 5 shows at Bonnaroo:
-The Strokes
-Deerhunter
-Arcade Fire
-Iron & Wine
-My Morning Jacket
Top 5 moments at Bonnaroo:
-Parachuters and tiny blinking LED lights in the sky that look like glitter/fairy dust while waiting for Arcade Fire
-Arcade Fire's Encore: everyone singing along to Wake Up and then the best song of all: Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) - I was really hoping they would play this!
-Middle of Deerhunter's set: fearing death from a very rowdy mosh pit, experiencing brain meltage from the wall of music, and my first concert tears
-Dancing in the HUGE sea of glittery, glowstick-y people at Bassnectar
-Widespread Panic's amazing light show coupled with dozens of little lanterns floating away in the sky
Will not miss:
-portos
-the 7 hour crawl of maybe 2 miles to get in the grounds
-waking up suffocating and sweating in my tent every morning
-being dirty 30 seconds after washing thanks to enormous dust clouds
-bug-bites, intense heat, super cold and wet nights, and sunburns!
Top 5 memorable moments from the road trip:
-Near death experience ascending Cave Mountain Lake Road (??) - a narrow, rocky, unpaved road winding up and down the mountains with no railings to catch our imminent fall - Julian Casablancas singing "dooon't gooooo that way" on the radio as we turned onto this road
-An exact replica of Stonehenge made entirely of Styrofoam in the middle of Virginia
-A delicious authentic Korean diner in Natural Bridge, VA and the girls that were taking pictures of everything (omg a sewer!)
-Driving by a juvenile detention facility in the middle of nowhere on the way to our "campsite" and the general feeling of horror entering this initially deserted "campground", the warning of the camp warden that there was no cell phone service and to not chop off our legs, coupled with the realization that I actually hate camping
-Gorgeous views from Skyline Dr and the sighting of a mama bear and her three cubs!
